ErrorFix: Scan, Repair and Speed your ComputerFragmented disk could cause errors in your computer. It can lead to PC crashes, slow your computer startup and shutdowns. Let’s see what is disk defrag and why should you use it.

What is means Defrag my Computer?

When you work with your computer, you’re constantly adding files, constantly removing files and constantly installing and removing software. These operations lead your hard drive to get fragmented.

When your operating system stores a big file on your hard drive, and cannot find a large enough chunk of free storage space, it splits the file into smaller pieces that can end up scattered all over your hard drive’s surface. One file will not necessarily be located in one physical place.

Over time your hard drive can be fragmented with lots of files broken up in many locations across the hard drive memory.

Defragmentation is the process of placing all parts of a file together in the same physical place on your hard drive.

Why should I defrag my computer?

Since a hard disk is a mechanical component in your computer, it works much slower than your CPU or your computer memory. It takes longer to the hard drive heads to access information in fragmented disk. Therefore, fragmented disk can slow your hard drive operations, which become a bottleneck of your computer performance.

Fragmented disk leads the disk heads to move too much when working on files, which may cause your computer to freeze up or even system crashes.

Defragging your hard drive organizes files in continuous memory and makes it easier for your computer hard drive to find the desired files. This ultimately decreases the amount of time your hard drive’s heads are spinning and also reduces the amount of power your hard drive consumes.

How Do I Defrag my Computer?

You have two main options to defrag your computer. The first is using the Operation System Disk Defragmenter, and the other option is to use third party tool.

  • Using Windows Disk Defragmenter

Windows Vista – Open Start Search box and type disk defragmenter.
Windows XP – Open Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, and Rearrange Items On Your Hard Disk To Make Programs Run Faster.

  • Using Third Party Tool

Why should you use third party tool instead of Windows Disk Defragmenter? The reason I recommend a third party tool is that there may on your PC that the disk defragmenter will not fix them alone, and you need another tool that will make some more operations as an addition to disk defrag like scanning and fixing your windows registry, clean out all your computer junk data, redundant files and invalid shortcuts.

There are some free tools you can try, but I strongly recommend that you check out the ErrorFix tool which will also have Smart Defragger as an addition to all other Registry Cleaner features.
