How to Recognize and To Remove Spyware

  • Pop ups advertisements

When you see in your computer some unwanted pop up ads that aren’t related to the web site you are visiting. If this is happened after your computer is turned on, or without surfing the Internet, then your computer is probably infected with spyware.

  • Additional Browser Toolbars

Spyware can add a toolbar to your browser. If you remove this unwanted toolbar, it will return when you restart your computer.

  • Home page and Search settings

Some spyware changes your home page URL and your search settings in your browser. You may change them back to your favorite default home page and favorite search engine, but after you restart your computer, they will return.  Spyware may also redirect some web pages you browse.

This can make your computer unstable, with an errors, and event cause him to crash. A sudden change in your computer performance could be a sign to a spyware.

  • Junk E-Mail

If you get spam e-mails that are related to your surfing habits, then it is a sign to spyware in your computer. It also can be that the spyware uses your computer for sending spam!

  • Noises and Whistles

If your computer hard drive whirling away when you are not doing anything, or your external modem data lights indicating data transfer when you’re not using the internet, chances that it’s a spyware symptom.

  • Username and Password stealing

When you have a Spyware in your computer, user name and passwords to web pages are vulnerable. Any behavior related to stealing such information is a sign to spyware in your computer.

How to remove Spyware?

You should first try the Add/Remove Programs of Windows Control Panel, to remove the suspected spyware software. Then run msconfig, and in the Startup tab uncheck the suspected entries to prevent them from loading at startup. All of this you do in Safe Mode with networking, to prevent the spyware to load on startup.

Anti Spyware

It is recommended to use third party Anti Spyware program that will scan and protect your computer from those parasite programs, and do it periodically. You could not know how much spyware you have in your computer, since not all of them can be removed using Add/Remove Programs. Some of them are very difficult to detect.
